Tellyworth and I have built an Open Source WordPress plugin that lets you add x402-powered paywalls around your WordPress content.
Paywalls are not new but this one is designed for the emerging agentic web, a place where AI-driven automated system can access your content and pay without the need for the traditional accounts or subscriptions.
X402 Pay allows you to set a payment amount (in USDC) for what you think your content is worth and agents are able to complete the transaction.
The plugin is expected to land in the WordPress.org plugin directory shortly. In the meantime, you can access it today here: https://github.com/Automattic/x402-pay
Current features:
- Add a paywall to individual posts or all posts.
- Apply the paywall for bots crawling your site.
- Optionally add the paywall to human visitors as well.
Transactions are currently facilitated by Coinbase, but we plan to add support for more in the future.
